DOLLY sung by Nanny Bennett (my Mum's Mum)
I just found a piece of paper in the back of my drawer. My Mum's Mum, Nanny used to sing this and I can remember writing the words down in 1978, Nan was...74 and died when she was 96.
Dolly this is washing day, and you must go to bed.
I cannot wait to nurse you dear, I have to work instead.
Your dress is quite a dirty brown, instead of blue and pink.
If company should chance to call, with shame I'd surely sink.
And dolly when the iron's hot, your dress I'll iron and well,
and you will look more sweet my dear, than words could ever tell!
